I was watching the world cup games, and as I watched France celebrate its victory over Brasil, I started thinking about these two diasporas: The Brasilians from the slave trade of four hundred years ago, and the French from recent migrations from Africa to France.
These distant "brothers" were now competing against each other, but both used sports to elevate themselves out of a nameless future.
Days later, I watched a movie called "Colors United" about an inner city theatre project for minority high schoolers. These children had not elevated themselves anywhere. They were still in the midst of street shootings, poverty, etc. So I wanted to put their echo in there too.
The hopes of a future victory...
