The Devil and The White City
Erik Larsen
The book narrates the parallel stories of two events that took place at the same time: The Chicago World Columbian Exposition, and the serial murders of H. H. Holmes.

Where on one side you see one man, Daniel Burnham, bent on epitomizing good in an architectural fantasy (such as the White City of the Columbian Exposition), on the other you see the evil character of a man exploiting weakness in other human beings to kill them.

After I finished reading this book, I took the car and went to visit some of the places described in the book (http://www.sharpnoise.com/projects/The_Devil_and_The_White_City/).
